Peace Train was breed by Russell C. Klotz in Emporia, Kansas and foaled on June 1,
1970. Peace Train’s Sire was Sugar Roll Leo. Sugar Roll Leo was a great sire of race
and show horses having produced 15 foals to race with three earning race ROM and
two others that earned show ROM. Sugar Roll Leo was the product of crossing the
outstanding arena and race horse Leo with Sugar Roll, an own daughter of the great
Sugar Bars. Leo, his sire, Joe Reed II, and Sugar Bars have all been featured in the
Western Horseman “Legends” Books.
Peace Train’s dam, Side’s Sadie, was the dam of 15 foals. Eight of her foals raced and
four earned race ROM. Side’s Sadie’s pedigree is equally as great as that of Peace
Train’s sire. Side’s Sadie’s lineage traces back to Gonzalez Joe Bailey (P-3), who was
also featured in “Legends” and Little King. Indeed, Gonzalez Joe Bailey was the
maternal great-grandsire of Peace Train.
With Sugar Bars, Leo, Joe Bailey, Joe Reed II and Little King on
his four generation pedigree, Peace Train was the product of
outstanding foundation quarter horse breeding. At Train
Station Quarter Horses, we believe this outstanding foundation
blood greatly contributed to not only the success of Peace
Train as a race horse, but also to the success of his get.
Peace Train has produced an AQHA Superior Race Champion
in the great Pa Pa Wheelie, champion barrel and pole horses,
champion breakaway horses, as well as great calf roping and
team roping horses. Peace Train’s outstanding disposition and
his traits of trainability, intelligence, agility, and heart were
passed on to his get. Today, his descendants, the horses that
we breed, train, and sell at TSQH, continue to carry these
innate traits.
Race Career
Peace Train’s race career included a total of 28 starts. Peace
Train had 10 starts at age 2. Of those starts, he showed an
amazing 9 times claiming first in his maiden race at Blue Ribbon
Downs at 300 yards. He placed second at Blue Ribbon Downs
at distances of 350 yards twice and at 330 yards once. Peace Train finished his 2 year old campaign by placing third in the Klotz Bred Futurity, for an amazing
campaign in his first year out. For his efforts, at the end of his two year old campaign, Peace Train received his racing Register of Merit in the spring of 1973.
As a three year old Peace Train had four starts with three wins. Eureka proved to be a favorite for the sorrel stallion for at Eureka each time he started as a three
year he won including races at 350 yards, 330 yards and at 400 yards. He finished his 3 year old campaign by placing third at the Big Basin Derby.
As a four year old, Peace Train won the Minnesota Championship at 350 yards. He raced as a four year old, five year old and seven year old. Each year that he
raced he won at least one race with the exception of his last racing year at age seven. That year he managed to place second in the Central States allowance,
which is quite an amazing feat considering his age.
In all Peace Train had 28 starts with 18 showings including 7 wins, 5 seconds and 6 thirds. He seemed to excel at short distance racing between 300 and 400
yards. He had a great race career at those distances and as a sire he passed on those quick and agile traits to his get.
His Get
At age four, PeaceTrain began his career as a sire of champions. He produced 40 foals in 10 crops between 1975 and 1989. Only four of his crops raced while
the others were destined for greatness in the arena or other areas. Most of Peace Train’s race crops were small (usually 1 or 2 foals), however, they were
impressive in their efforts on the track. Indeed his second crop included the Superior Race Horse, PaPa Wheelie (SI93). Pa Pa was an outstanding bay colt.
As a two year old, Pa Pa won the Texas futurity at 330 yards and placed second in the Kansas Futurity at 350 yards at Ruidoso. In all Pa Pa Wheelie had 26
starts. He earned an amazing eight firsts, four seconds, and three thirds and earned an astounding $182,400.
In 1978, Ron and Carol Lynn Longbrake of Eagle Butte, South Dakota purchased Peace Train and brought him north to South Dakota from Kansas. It was the
Longbrake’s who bred Peace Train’s next great racing foal. In 1979, Choo Choo Train, Peace Train’s most significant South Dakota bred foal hit the ground.
Choo Choo was one of only two foals sired for the 1979 crop. Choo Choo earned race ROM as a two year old and earned an AAA Speed Index rating of 94. The
other foal to hit the ground in 1979 was Cliff’s Train aka Caboose.
Like Choo Choo Train, Caboose was bred and raised by Ron and Carol Lynn Longbrake in Eagle Butte, South Dakota. Caboose is truly a special horse. The
little sorrel filly was destined to be an arena champ from the very beginning. She never raced on the track but she really took to the arena, especially in the
Barrels and the Poles. In 1990, she finished in the top ten in the South Dakota Rodeo Association finals in the Barrels.
Robbi Longbrake broke Caboose to ride and trained Caboose for both the barrels and the poles. In 1989, Caboose was being used regularly by Robbi in
SDRA rodeos across the state of South Dakota. Caboose has won thousands of dollars in the SDRA circuit as well as at 4D barrels racings across the state of
South Dakota. Caboose always finished in the 1D or 2D.
Caboose traveled and was used by Robbi in 4-H and high school events across South Dakota. Primarily Caboose was used as a Barrel horse; however, she
was trained as a pole horse. During the 1986 Regional High School Rodeo in Chamberlain, SD Robbi’s number one pole horse, “Misty,” was injured so
Caboose had to step up and be used in the poles. In her very first competition in the event, Caboose finished first in the poles! She ran a fast 21 with Robbi on
board. Robbi later confessed that she had planned to just take it easy in the event because it was Caboose’s first official run. However, the competitive nature
and heart displayed by Caboose took them to the winner’s circle. Obviously that horse never competes for second! At age 25, Caboose is still going strong and
competing in the barrels in Oklahoma.
Peace Train’s last racing foal was a chestnut stallion named Rain Train. “Rainy” raced as a two year old in the South Dakota circuit but never really got the
chance on the track that he deserved. Rainy is a full brother to the great horse Choo Choo Train and was foaled in 1984. After his race career was cut short, his
owner thought he might be better going another direction. Ron Longbrake sent the horse to Billy Meyers for roping training and to Jerry Golliher to start him on
the barrels. Rainy never really took to roping as the clang of the roping chute reminded him too much of the track. Then Rainy went to Robbi to finish training on
the barrels during the summer of 1993. Rainy then spent a number of years in the pasture and did not compete in any type of events.
In 2002, Rainy went to live with Robbi. It was then after eighteen years, that Rainy found his true calling in life—that was to be a National Little Britches Rodeo
Champion. You see when Rainy came to live with Robbi and her family; he became Ryder Lee’s competition horse. What a competitor he is!
Ryder and Rainy were simply meant to be partners in the arena. He is so good with her. He takes such good care of that kid. His disposition is unbelievable.
As a 1200 lb gelding that was off the track, it is a little scary to put your precious daughter on a horse like that, but, Rainy takes great pride in caring for Ryder and
being her horse. Together they have won over $600 dollars, six belt buckles at Nebraska Junior Rodeos and National Little Britches Rodeos and are currently
sitting second in a 3D saddle series. They have qualified for the National Finals of the Little Britches Rodeo in their first year of competition. They are truly a
great team!

His Legacy
In 2001, Robbi and her family began researching Peace Train’s offspring in hopes of acquiring some own daughters for breeding and any own son’s that were
stallions. With only 40 foals to his credit, finding own daughters of Peace Train was very difficult and no stallions were identified.
Peace Train produced 22 mares. By 2001, most of these mares were either deceased or aged beyond the prime breeding years. What’s more, those who did
own daughters of Peace Train were not willing to sell. It was put to Robbi’s husband Daman on every occasion that he was able to contact the owner of an own
daughter or son of Peace Train that the horse was absolutely not for sale. Many of the owners would say things like, “That horse is the best horse I have ever
owned, I will never sell her,” or “that horse is the best rope horse of all the horses that I have ever seen.” On one occasion it was put to Daman like this from the
owner of a Peace Train daughter, “I have owned many horses in my life and in your life I believe you get one really good horse. In this case, that horse was it.”
Train Station Quarter Horses feels extremely fortunate to have located and purchased two own daughters of Peace Train. They are Peaceful Joela and Romans
Sweet Sugar. Each of these mares were outstanding rope and arena horses. Peaceful will foal her first in 2006 while Roman has three foals and the ground
and one on the way. Roman is bred to Rare News for a 2005 foal. Roman’s first two babies have also been acquired by TSQH. They are TRC Sweet Sugar
Baby and Lil Train That Can who are coming 3 and 4 respectively in 2005.
Additionally, TSQH has acquired the last son of Peace Lady, McGinns Rocket Train. “Rocky” is truly a blessing. As a foal he was orphaned at one month of
age. Now, one would never know it by looking at him. He has grown into a beautiful four year old stallion with all the traits we expect of Peace Train’s get—
trainability, intelligence, heart, agility and a super disposition. Rocky’s first foals arrive in 2005.
TSQH believe strongly that Peace Train was an outstanding sire. Our goals is to carry on his legacy by breeding, training and selling horses of his outstanding
lineage. To meet this goal, TSQH will be selling grand babies of the great Peace Train and stand our two outstanding stallions, Lil Train That Can and McGins
Rocket Train. Please see our sale horses for more information on our current offerings.
